PBworks "How To" Video Series

How can I add and edit tables in my Wiki to manage and organize the space and information?

Tables in PBworks are a little different than in Word.  Most of the table editing takes place at the Cell Property level.  Take a look at this table information if you're having difficulties.

How can I link to outside websites?

A PBwork is a great way to guide research with your students by providing links you would like them to follow.  This short video will show you how to link to outside URLs.

How can I set my students up as writer's if they don't have e-mail accounts?

PBwork has recently developed a way for us to give each of our students individual access to their pages within our wiki.

Is my wiki secure?

Your content is hosted and secured by PBwiki.  You also have control over who can view and edit your wiki.  You can choose to make your wiki public or private.

How can I monitor all my students?

When you set up your wiki, you can choose to have an e-mail sent to you each time the wiki is edited.  Within the e-mail, you will see the changes that have taken place.

In addition to monitoring students, you can provide feedback and suggestions in the Comments section.  You can delete your comment from public view once you know the student has seen it.

I have a lot of students.  How can I manage all their files and folder?

PBworks has recently updated the amount of storage available in their basic, free wikis to 200 MB.  It is now quick and easy for students to upload and search for documents within the wiki.

With this additional storage space, can I use my Wiki to distribute and collect documents from my students when they're at school and at home?

YES And when you view "Pages and Files," you will see an image at the top right of the screen that will show you how much of your space you have used.

How can I check history or revert back to a previous version?

Click on the "Page History" button at the top, right of the page.  You can view the edits made and choose to refer back to a previous version.

I'd like to set up the same page for all 25 of my students.  Is there a way to do this without recreating it 25 times?

Yes, there is a new PBworks feature in templates.  By tagging the first of these many pages as a "template", you are able to select the template for subsequent pages.

What else should I consider as I'm creating my Wiki?

Consider many of the same editing tips that you would use in publishing any electronic text.  If you're new to web building, be sure to glance through our Tips and Tricks.

What other components can I add to my wiki?

PBworks makes a variety of plugins available to enhance your site.  While in edit mode, select Insert Plugin from the toolbar.
